From viewer Bob Frazier on my Oroville Dam series-
"Juan, I think you've demonstrated the true power of the fourth estate - reporting information, facts, observations, and informing the public. Nobody has to watch unless they're interested, but thousands of us bystanders are, and we thank you. "TV News" can't do what you've done, they don't have the time, but you really did show how powerful a smart capable person with a camera can be. It amazes me how much more information you covered than anyone - and without drama or sensationalism. Thank you!"

Juan, I'm amazed at your ability to report on incidents as this one. It would be interesting to reconstruct one or more of the many training crashes in WWII in the central US. As a 10-year old farm boy, I was fueling our tractor to begin a day harvesting the wheat crop. Often groups of B-17 were practicing bombing missions overhead over 20,000 feet. Bruning AAF was a P-47 training field at the time about 10 miles to the west of our farm; it was common for the Thunderbirds to practice intercepts among the tight B-17 formations. As I was watching the mock dogfight, I watched a P-47 collide and clip off the tail section of one of the bombers. The intact fighter spiraled in vertically trailing smoke and killing the young pilot at impact. The bomber fluttered down in several pieces scattering an engine and landing gear away from the main parts of the airframe just to the north of a farmstead. About half of the crew parachuted, some surviving. I was too young to realize the impact of death in the incident.

At 5 miles they were out of 3500 for 3000 and INSISTS that they are established on ILS If they were comfortable and established (as per ATC) AP engaged ... on a false glide slope at some point aircraft should pitch the nose up to a point where warning chimes could trigger. (ATC ... when pilot say "Roger Pakistan 8303" after getting the landing clearance ) Interestingly there are no warning sound(s) when pilot announce go around. Appreciate your comment on this.

I'm no pilot, but this crash seems eerily similar to the MCAS crashes of the recent past. The rapid descent of the plane as it approached the runway makes no sense unless the pilot was attempting suicide. Could it be that the pilot was confused by an unexpected train of events and distracting alarms that was caused by some sort of mechanical or computer malfunction?

Juan, I appreciate the technical expertise that you apply to getting us the teachable lessons from incidents like these. At the same time I am coming to believe it would be better to wait until an initial official report is released where we have black box data, more complete information, and some incident-local pros who have applied their collective experience to more complete facts than we have now. I have observed a lot of anomalies with the ADS-B information for flights in my dense metro area with three major international airports and good coverage. The inconsistency of this source has even obstructed FAA investigation into careless pilots, one of which I observed first hand. The data identified an entirely different aircraft than I observed and reported. I also wonder if this were an accident involving your own airline or pilots you personally knew and our fellow citizens, would you be making the same analysis day by day. You are a good guy. I just question your choices in this situation. Kind regards.

The controller knew he was too high and ordered a turn to 180, likely for a 360 decending turn down to 3,000' or so. My guess is he didn't want to do the go around because of the identification of a go around as a failure. He was trying to extend the landing gear and it clearly was not extending. I would be curious, is the landing gear will extend if you are over speed? I never liked the fully fly by wire systems. As long as everything goes well it works. When the aircraft gets outside the normal envelop the pilot's options are limited by a computer. Guessing the pilot thought it's a really long runway, I can touch down halfway down the runway and have plenty of room to stop. Then the gear wouldn't extend and the rest is history.

Could the A 320 adopt a "gear-down" and "go-around" voice warning? It seems to me that most modern aircraft could/should have a GPWS-related callout programmed that warns at 500 AGL "GEAR DOWN!" and repeated every 100ft until 100ft then "GO-AROUND!" if "gear-down" not complied with. Your thoughts El Capitan?

I think covid-19 could have also affected the pilot’s mental frame of mind: imagine if you are a pilot, on 2 months paid/unpaid leave due to lockdown, and in that time a family member gets sick or some other family or close friends lose a business, etc and so it’s bound to affect your mental health - pilots who feel that they are impacted should stay away from the cockpit but hanging onto a job could have made that impossible? Just saying...pilots are human beings!

I worked out altitude data. Based on this data, here is what I found: 8,000 feet 3 minutes from touchdown 3,500 feet 5 nm from runway 1,500 feet 4 nm from runway 1,300 feet 1 minute from touchdown nm=nautical miles fpm = feet per minute descending 35,000 feet to 10,000 feet in 13 minutes (1,900 fpm descent) 10,000 feet to touchdown in 4 minutes (2,500 fpm descent) 10,000 feet to 2,000 feet in 120 seconds (4,000 fpm descent) 8,000 feet to 2,000 feet in 90 seconds (4,000 fpm descent) 8,000 feet to 1,300 feet in 120 seconds (3,300 fpm descent) Possible explanation for why pilots forgot the gear Here’s my theory: 1. Plane is at 35,000 feet. 2. ATC tells plane to descend to 10,000 feet 3. Plane descends to 10,000 feet 4. ATC tells plane to descend from 10,000 to waypoint 5. Pilots take too long to start descending and then rapidly dump altitude to descend in order to meet waypoint since they have less time 6. Pilots continue rapid descent dumping altitude quickly. At 8,000 feet, they were 3 minutes from runway, at 1,300 feet they were 1 minute from the runway. So they descended 6,000 feet in 90 seconds. 7. Plane approaches waypoint at too high an altitude. 8. At 5 nm waypoint from runway, plane should be 1,700 feet, but it was actually at 3,500 feet (too high). 9. ATC offers pilots a circling vector so they can circle and dump excess altitude and approach waypoint a 2nd time at a lower altitude. 10. Pilots decline ATC’s offer for circling vector to burn off and dump excess altitude, they tell ATC they can make ILS 25L from their current altitude 3,500 (which is too high). 11. Plane was 3,500 feet at 5nm, 1,500 feet at 4nm. So they dumped 2,000 feet in 1 nm. 12. During this rapid descent, pilots tried to lower gear earlier than usual to reduce speed and dump altitude. 13. Pilot moves gear lever in cockpit in down position for gear down, but plane was going too fast to extend the gear so pilots got an overspeed warning, indicating gear cannot extend while plane is going faster than 260kts, but lever does not move back to up position, lever stays in down position even though overspeed warning means the landing gear is actually still in up position. 14. Pilots complete landing checklist, lever in down position indicates that gear is down as normal. Cockpit gear lever in down position at approach speed near runway also means that no EGPWS alarm would be going off, when in reality the overspeed warning earlier means the landing gear is actually still in up position. Since gear overspeed warning only sounds when plane is faster than 260kts, the plane would be slower than 260kts near the runway and the gear overspeed warning would have turned off. Since cockpit gear lever is in correct down position as normal, and lever in down position means EGPWS thinks gear is down, EGPWS alarm is not going off. In reality, the gear overspeed warning earlier in the flight was ignored by accident because the pilots should have moved cockpit gear lever back in up position immediately after getting overspeed warning, slow down below 260kts, and then try second time to move gear lever into down position again at a lower speed. The gear lever does not automatically move back up if you get an overspeed warning, so if you forget to immediately put the lever back up when gear fails to go down, later you will think that gear lever is correct as showing gear down when it is actually wrong and gear is up. After several minutes, pilots may have forgotten that they never tried to lower the gear again a second time after the gear overspeed warning and thought it was already down based on the fact that gear lever in cockpit was in correct position (which they forgot to move back up since overspeed warning meant gear did not go down) and no EGPWS alarm was going off. In reality, since the gear lever did not automatically move back up when overspeed warning failed to extend gear, pilots thought their landing gear was down when it was actually in up position. 15. Plane is approaching runway very fast at high speed, everything else looks normal, gear lever is down, no alarms are going off. 16. Plane hits the ground on just engines, this is the first time pilots realize that gear is up, big surprise to pilots. The first point that the plane touches down is halfway along the runway, so only half of the runway is left when they first hit the ground. 17. Engines scrape ground causing black skid marks 18. Pilot instinct is to pull up and abort a bad landing which is what they are trained to do. Since the plane was already coming in very fast and touched down halfway along the runway, pilots were already thinking about going around even before landing, and with half the runway left, they knew they would overshoot the end of the runway if they tried to stop so they aborted instead. 19. Plane goes around for 2nd landing attempt 20. Plane circles in air for 5 minutes to get back to runway 21. During these 5 minutes, hydraulic fluid and oil is rapidly leaking out from pipes that were scraped on bottom of engine. Fuel is NOT leaking out. 22. Total loss of hydraulic failure after all hydraulic fluid leaks out from ruptured hydraulic pipes on bottom of both scraped engines, flaps stop working and landing gear issues get worse. White smoke in PSPK picture is hydraulic fluid leaking out of bottom of the scraped engine. 23. All oil rapidly leaks out from oil sumps on bottom of both scraped engines, without oil both engines overheat and shut down, plane now becomes glider with no thrust. Fan blades in engine are intact which means engines were not running when plane crashed. 24. Ram Air Turbine automatically deploys when both engines shut down to power critical electronics in cockpit. 25. Since both engines stop working, plane rapidly loses altitude and starts gliding. 26. PSPK picture with RAT deployed is taken 27. Landing gear is manually deployed by gravity drop increasing drag and makes gliding more difficult 28. Plane loses even more altitude as it makes left turn over Model Colony to line up with 25L 29. Plane lines up with 25L but it lost too much altitude by deploying gear early and then lost more altitude by making turn to 25L. Plane is now critically low and cannot make it to runway. 30. Plane was only leaking hydraulic fluid and oil, not fuel so there is plenty of fuel left when plane crashes causing massive fireball on CCTV video. It turns out the theory that the plane had gear down and then bounced and aborted a hard landing, retracted gear early, and scraped engine is wrong. Gear retraction takes 8 seconds so if plane had retracted gear after bounce but before TOGA thrust kicks in, it would have bounced back down in 1-2 seconds while gear retraction takes 8 seconds. There would not have been enough time for landing gear to fully retract in only a 1-2 second bounce. Landing gear doors would have been ripped off at the same time the engines scraped the ground like in Smartlynx incident in Estonia. We know from PSPK pictures that landing gear doors are clean, there is no sign of any damage or ripped landing gear doors. So this means only way it could have no damage to landing gear doors is if landing gear was never deployed in the first place, and only engines scraped ground. The very long skid marks on runway could be either because TOGA took a long time to spool up since friction would make it hard to get airborne again, or alternatively it could be because TOGA in Airbus is not a button like in Boeing, you have to push throttle levers all the way forward to activate TOGA, if you only moves throttle partially, it will not activate TOGA. So this could have delayed response by a few seconds.

The pilot needed to wake up to the ridiculous and dangerous manoeuvre he was attempting. A possible solution might be to fit jericho trumpets to the wings, so that steep dives are met by screeching banshee wails as used by Stuka dive-bombers to terrify civilians in WWII. If jericho trumpets are too draggy, then maybe a Stuka dive-bomber noise could be piped through the in-flight entertainment system or even the cabin PA to let the passengers know that the pilot's gone on a bender, or a kamikaze mission. It'd be good feedback for the captain - having the whole cabin screaming in terror. This is a ridiculous outcome. A hundred lost lives, just so that the captain didn't lose face over a careless approach and an otherwise unnecessary go-around. Shameful. PIA should be banned from flying anywhere.

You'd have a better chance of survival with a couple of 5-yr-olds up front.

So is this how it all started? 640x480 @24fps? I decided to go back to your first video to see how your channel started. It looks like your first love was dirt bike'n. Maybe aviation took over that when you got older and realized that you shouldn't risk bodily harm jumping mud berms and stuff. I am searching for the video that explains your channel name.. I know blanco means white in spanish.. lirio means lily..or flower..

False Glide slope! They were also told to descend to 3500 feet when they should have been told to descend to 2k. This shortened the usable Runway causing the go around. But doesn't explain why the gear was not down.

There are many questions to answer , Was the Chief Pilot mentally and Physically alright . There are supposed be a Co pilot and a flight Engr on board Who should be able to provide a technical cover when such erratic behaviour or any Technical deficiencies are noticed in observing Standard operating procedures . Or are over looked . The series of videos and initial reports indicate a very tragic Human Error , on a day and at a time when the weather was clear and all the runways were unoccupied . PIA needs not only an inquiry into this tragic accident but also a very close and technical examination of the entire organization to find and establish whether its further operations should be halted till its human and material assets are cleared to continue with their normal business. PIA is reportedly faced with serious organizational and Technical lapses , and such issues cannot be swept under the carpet when Human Losses and vital National interests are involved .

An extremely important problem. You Tube has destroyed its market. Anything offending the China market is out, for example, and advertisers in all fields are devastated for no good reason. Time for EVERYBODY to find a new home. We must work hard together, and fall in with the best one.The problem is I find a great series by blancolio, then I drift to say climate science. Please help us move, blancolirio. I would pay $6 a month, for 200 views. I looked at :- PATREON. Expensive, at $1 a view. Specific names are meant to be followed, not guidance to look for new. VIMEO aimed at high quality short movie releases. Classy, no popular stuff. $7 a month. These next ones below sound good. But I dont see how we get money to blancolirio. Perhaps using paid ads without the censoring algorithm? Surely if an extreme Nazi rants, does a seller of lounge chairs care if his ads are on the same page., especially if ads are in a box called adverts DAILY MOTION sounds very good. 180 hours of video a day is free.Popular world wide,.. Skimpy, a lot of UK stuff, but if we all went there maybe it could work. METACAFE Good but 10 min max

We are close to have a lot of accidents and incidents, remember how many aircrafts are in preservation and Maintenance will have tons of work dealing with mandatory cards, one of them is if Im not wrong, landing gear test. Im sure we can make mistakes, but also are many protections from Airbus with a landing gear before landing, ECAM, Check lists, (landing no blue), GPWS “Too low Gear”, feels a little strange. Just thinking

That was a truly unfortunate combination of circumstances. Aviation is one of those pursuits that reminds us of human fallibility with very harsh consequences. Who of us hasn't accidentally bitten our own tongue while eating an ordinary meal on on unremarkable day no matter how experienced we we are in dining and other far more demanding skills? On the other hand, there are cases like the recent PIA #8303 where you can't help but think those guys should probably have pursued an entirely different career.
